Chelsea readying fresh move for South American star

Chelsea are prepared to make a fresh approach for Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez in January, according to football.london.

The Blues were eager to sign the Mexican in the penultimate day of the transfer window, but Ajax refused to do business.

The Dutch transfer window was due to close on August 30, and there was no time to pursue a suitable replacement for Ajax.

As a result, Alvarez had no choice but to stay, but the Blues could make a fresh move when the transfer window reopens in January.

The west London giants are currently looking into the future with Jorginho and N'Golo Kante having entered the final year of their deals.

Neither player is close to penning an extension, and there could be the possibility of both of them heading out on free transfers.

The Blues were able to sign Denis Zakaria on loan before the deadline, but are still willing to go ahead with their pursuit of Alvarez.
