Chelsea star confirms Liverpool wanted to sign him
Chelsea midfielder Denis Zakaria has confirmed that Liverpool were initially interested in signing him from Juventus this summer.
The Switzerland international joined the Blues on loan from the Bianconeri on transfer deadline day. The club have the option to buy him for €30m.
Zakaria is still awaiting his Blues debut, but speaking to Blick, he has acknowledged that Jurgen Klopp's side were also keen on his services.
He said: "I heard that from my agent [about Liverpool interest], but in the end it was Chelsea. And I think I'll be happier in England than in Turin."
Zakaria had been linked with a Premier League for a number of years, and he has finally got the opportunity to prove himself with Chelsea.
He was definitely not on the club's radar until deadline day and the onus is now on the midfielder to impress sufficiently for a permanent move.
Chelsea are already looking to bring another marquee midfielder. New boss Graham Potter is likely to be backed in the transfer market in January.
