Chelsea defender talks up new contract

Thiago Silva news

Silva eyeing new Chelsea deal?

Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has talked up a new contract by revealing his desire to play until the age of 40.

The Brazilian recently celebrated his 38th birthday, but he has shown no signs of slowing down on the playing field.

In fact, he has been the Blues' best performing centre-back for some time, and he is looking forward to a few more years.

Speaking to the club's official website, he said: "My aim is to play until I'm 40 years old but I don’t know if it will be this level or this competition."

"It depends on this season and we’ll see what will happen in the World Cup. It also depends on a contract extension but yeah, my aim is to play until I’m 40."

Silva joined the Blues on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain two years ago, and there were doubts over his adaptability.

However, he has passed most of the hurdles with flying colours, and has turned into one of the club's most reliable performers.

He put pen-to-paper on a new deal until June 2023 in January, and the Blues should be tempted to keep him for another campaign.

Silva has been ever-present for the Blues in the Premier League this term.
