Erik ten Hag confirms Man Utd injury blow
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed that Raphael Varane picked up a big injury during the Manchester derby.
The Frenchman has been superb for the Red Devils in recent weeks, but he could now be sidelined with an apparent ankle problem.
Varane was substituted before the half-time whistle for United, and Ten Hag has now acknowledged that the issue seems to be big.
The centre-back has had a concerning injury record during his career, and the latest setback should worry United with the schedule ahead.
The Red Devils are set to play another 12 games before the World Cup, and Ten Hag will need as much depth as possible to compete.
As things stand, the club are left with just two regular centre-backs in Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof that are currently fit.
Harry Maguire has been the regular deputy this campaign, but the England star is currently out with his muscle injury on Nations League duty.
