Potter speaks on Kante's contract status

Chelsea manager Graham Potter has said that the club are not focusing on N'Golo Kante's contract situation at the moment.

The Frenchman is currently in the final year of his Blues deal and the club have yet to agree personal terms over a renewal.

There has been a stand-off with Kante reluctant to accept a pay-cut and there are now doubts whether the Blues want to keep him.

Kante is currently out for four months after a surgery for a hamstring injury and Potter has said that his recovery is the priority.

He said: "The most important thing for us and for me is that we help him get fit. That's the focus. He's got a long road ahead of him so we have to make sure that we get him the right treatment, we help him get back fit and strong."

Kante is unlikely to return to action for the Blues until March at least. He will have just three months to prove his fitness.

If he is unable to stay unscathed on his comeback, there is a high possibility that he could be released on a free next summer.
