Man Utd enter race to sign Chelsea midfield target

Manchester United have joined Chelsea in the race to sign midfielder Edson Alvarez during the January transfer window.

The Red Devils strengthened their midfield department last summer with Casemiro and Christian Eriksen, but they are eyeing another signing.

According to Calciomercato, Alvarez has emerged as an option for United and they could be set to compete with Chelsea for his services.

The Blues made an offer of £43 million for Alvarez last summer, but Ajax declined the proposal as they had no time to land a replacement.

The west London giants plan to return for him at the turn of the year, but United could hamper their prospects of signing the 25-year-old.

Erik ten Hag knows Alvarez well from their time together at Ajax. He could play a key role in luring the Mexican during the January transfer window.

Alvarez could also be tempted to reunite with ex-teammates Lisandro Martinez and Antony, who joined the Red Devils earlier this summer.
