Arsenal are expected to step up their pursuit of Palmeiras midfielder Danilo, having missed out on landing him last summer.

The Brazilian was a top target for the north London giants before the summer transfer deadline, but Palmeiras refused to sell.

The Sao Paulo outfit were top of the league table and did not want to lose a pivotal figure midway through their campaign.

The Gunners will now make a renewed bid at the turn of the year and there is optimism that Palmeiras will sell this time around.

Danilo could be available for a fee of around €20 million.

The 21-year-old is a defensive midfielder by trade and could be seen as a potential long-term replacement for Thomas Partey.

Partey has been in the form of his life for the Gunners this term, but the Ghanaian has had a history of injuries at the club.

His fitness can't be relied for an entire season. The club need another solid holding midfielder in the squad. Danilo should be an ideal fit.
