William Gallas slams Chelsea for £60m outlay on defender
Former Chelsea defender William Gallas has slammed the Blues' decision to spend £60m on Marc Cucurella this summer.
The Spaniard had a decent debut season at Brighton & Hove Albion last term, and he was fancied to pursue a bigger challenge.
It was initially claimed that Manchester City could sign him for £40m, but the price tag rose after Chelsea entered the bidding battle.
In the end, the Blues paid a hefty fee of around £60m for the left wing-back. Gallas has now expressed his shock over the decision.
He said: "I don’t know what they are getting from Cucarella, who was signed for £60million! He doesn’t play for Spain. He isn’t in the Chelsea starting eleven. £60million! Wow!"
Cucurella has experienced a difficult start to his Blues career. His position has been poor and he has yet to justify the fee spent on him.
Hopefully, he will turnaround his fortunes when the Blues return to Premier League action after the World Cup break in late December.
