Ronaldo leaves Man Utd

Manchester United have confirmed the release of Cristiano Ronaldo from the club by mutual agreement.

The Portugal international made disrespectful comments towards manager Erik ten Hag in an interview with Piers Morgan recently.

It was expected that he would be sacked after the comments and the Red Devils have now confirmed his formal departure.

A statement on their official website read: "Cristiano Ronaldo is to leave Manchester United by mutual agreement, with immediate effect."

Ronaldo is currently with Portugal at the World Cup and he won't be assessing his future until the conclusion of the tournament.

The 37-year-old can't play for another club until the turn of the year but it remains to be seen who will be interested in signing him.

Chelsea are touted as the front-runners to land his services. The club's owner Todd Boehly was desperate to sign him over the summer.

Manager Thomas Tuchel vetoed the decision, but the scenario has now changed with the German having been sacked by the club.
