Man Utd to swoop for Gakpo

Manchester United want PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo as a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo in the January transfer window.

Ronaldo, 37, has been released by the Red Devils today following his interview with Piers Morgan in which he made critical comments.

His departure should coincide with the purchase of another forward in January and reports claim that Gakpo could be targeted by the hierarchy.

The club were hot on the trail of the Dutchman in the last transfer window, but a deal did not materialise due to the lack of budget in the end.

They spent their remaining budget on Antony, but it appears the club could make a fresh approach when the transfer window reopens this winter.

Gakpo has been in sensational form for PSV this term with 30 goal contributions in 24 games. The club are open to selling him in January.

PSV wanted around £45m for him in the summer, and it is likely that they will demand more amid his superb progress in the current season.
