Fred could be released next summer

Manchester United midfielder Fred could be offloaded when his contract concludes in the summer, according to 90min.

The Brazilian star has been with the Red Devils for the past four years, but he is no longer considered as a regular starter for them.

He is currently behind Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Scott McTominay in the pecking order and the club are already eyeing another midfielder.

Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi is a top target for manager Erik ten Hag and it is claimed that his arrival could pave the way for Fred's departure.

Fred's deal is set to expire in June next year. The hierarchy have the option to keep him for another campaign by triggering a clause available.

In the past, United have taken the opportunity to activate such clauses, but Ten Hag does not want to do the same as a formality hereon.

He is prepared to permit the departure of Fred on a free transfer in order to make room for the purchase of a quality young midfielder.
