Arsenal won't sign midfielder in January

Arsenal are not planning to sign a new midfielder next month, according to The Athletic.

The north London giants are likely to strengthen their squad in January and a versatile forward is the prime priority.

Shakhtar Donetsk's Mykhaylo Mudryk has been identified as the top target, but he won't come for cheap this winter.

The Ukrainian outfit want around €100m for his services and the Gunners have a difficult task at hand to sign him.

Meanwhile, there has been talk of signing a new midfielder, but The Athletic claim that the plan may be postponed.

With Thomas Partey, Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny fully fit in recent months, the club are not concerned over the role.

The hierarchy believe there is sufficient cover in the department. Albert Sambi Lokonga is another back-up option.

Hence, there are unlikely to sign another midfielder until the end of the season unless a surprise opportunity arises.

Arsenal are currently five points clear at the top of the Premier League.
