Chelsea agree transfer fee for Enzo Fernandez
World Cup winning midfielder Enzo Fernandez could be set to join Chelsea as the Argentinian star flies to England next week to discuss personal terms at Stamford Bridge. The Argentinian player, who was named as the FIFA World Cup 2022 young player of the tournament, has also been on the radar of Man City and Man Utd, but Chelsea are the first to have officially agreed a fee with Portuguese outfit Benfica.
The 21-year-old only arrived at Benfica in 2022 from River Plate, but has impressed so much during his debut season that the Premier League's top sides have all already been in contact to sign the central midfielder. Fernandez would play a pivotal role in Argentina's World Cup victory, scoring a goal himself in a 2-0 win over Mexico on the 26th of November.
Man Utd will apparently drop out of the race to sign Fernandez next week as the club are unlikely to match the 100 million euro valuation Benfica have slapped on their star asset. Chelsea, on the other hand, are unlikely to be busy in the January transfer window and instead will look to sign only one player should a move be agreed for Enzo.
The January transfer window opens on Sunday, and a deal is likely to be concluded before the end of the month.
