Auxerre left-back Gideon Mensah has emerged as a target for Premier League sides Leeds United and Wolverhampton Wanderers, as both teams seek to bolster their defence ahead of a busy second half of the league season. It is understood that Auxerre will accept a fee of around 12 million euros for the Ghana international.

The impressive defender, who at 24-years-old is still yet the finished article, arrived at Auxerre in August 2022 but is already coveted by several English sides. Leeds United coach Jesse Marsch is familiar with the defender, having worked with him when in charge at Red Bull Salzburg. Leeds United are also looking for cover for current left-back Pascal Struijk. Wolverhampton Wanderers have recently been playing Spanish defender Hugo Bueno in the full-back role, who has impressed during recent weeks. However newly appointed manager Julen Lopetegui wants to sign cover for Bueno, and sees Mensah as a well priced alternative.

Mensah has 13 caps for the Black Stars, and has plenty of experience in some of Europe's top leagues. He has had spells for RB Salzburg, Austria's Sturm Graz, Belgium's Zulte Waregem and Portugal's Vitoria de Guimaraes, before a loan move last year to Ligue 1 and France with Bordeaux.
