De Gea told to accept big pay-cut to renew

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has been told to accept a massive pay-cut to extend his stay with the club.

The Spaniard has been with the Red Devils for 12 years and he is said to be keen on seeing out his career with them.

United have opened talks over a new deal with him, but The Mail claim that he must accept a huge pay-cut to stay put.

The 32-year-old is currently the highest earner at the club at £375,000-a-week and will need to lower his salary to £200,000 weekly.

This is due to the fact that United and manager Erik ten Hag have introduced a salary cap to avoid jealousy in the dressing room.

The club plan to bring all players within the £200,000-a-week bracket and this could see a couple of high-profile departures.

The likes of Marcus Rashford and Luke Shaw could head for the exit door. The former is already earning the same figure.
