De Gea set to be rested vs Charlton

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea could be rested during Tuesday's Carabao Cup quarter-final against Charlton Athletic.

The Spain international has been in superb form between the sticks for United, but he has yet to make an appearance in the Carabao Cup.

Martin Dubravka, who was on loan until December 31, started the last two rounds and another deputy could feature against Charlton.

Speaking in his press conference, Ten Hag confirmed his plan to rest De Gea with one of Tom Heaton and Jack Butland starting.

Heaton is best prepared for the game, having been at the club throughout, but January signing Butland will be hoping to get the nod.

United are clear favourites to beat the Addicks on their home turf. Regardless of the starting XI, they should win easily by a big margin.

Ten Hag could be tempted to rotate his options around, considering the club have three league games coming up in the space of eight days.
