Mykola Matvienko - heading for Premier League move?

Brighton and Hove Albion have bid £14.1 million for Shakhtar Donetsk defender Mykola Matvienko, as the South Coast club's manager Roberto De Zerbi seeks to raid his former club for a new signing. 26-year-old Matviyenko has 52 appearances for the Ukraine national team, and is also believed to have options to move to Italy or Germany as opposed to Brighton.

Comfortable playing in central defence or as a left-sided full-back, the Saky-born defender is versatile and very highly rated in his home country. According to Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Brighton have tabled a 16 million euro plus 4 million euro of add-ons for the Donetsk player, which has been rejected.

Mativiyenko was reportedly in London this weekend on holiday in a planned break from his training, and it is understood that talks began during that visit.

Shakhtar Donetsk's director of football Darijo Srna was responsible for the transfer fee discussions that saw Mykhaylo Mudryk move to Chelsea, and is known to be a tough negotiator. It is believed that Srna is refusing to budge from his club's current valuation of £24 million.
