Arsenal defender to turn down West Ham transfer

Arsenal defender Nuno Tavares has no plans of joining West Ham United during the summer transfer window.

The left-back spent the previous campaign on loan with Marseille where he scored six goals across all competitions.

He has returned to the Gunners for pre-season, but there is a possibility that he could leave the club in the near future.

West Ham are one of the teams interested in the £20 million-rated star, but the Portuguese prefers to move elsewhere.

The former Benfica man is looking to join a more important club than the Hammers despite their European success.

Tavares is currently below Oleksandr Zinchenko and Kieran Tierney in the pecking order for the left-back role at Arsenal.

Takehiro Tomiyasu can also occupy the position and it seems highly unlikely that he will be at the club next season.

It remains to be seen whether the Gunners will receive a lucrative bid from elsewhere. AS Monaco and Inter are keeping tabs.
