Madrid want new Robinho deal

Spanish champions Real Madrid are said to be seriously contemplating of handing a contact extension to their 24-year old Brazilian star Robinho in the summer, according to Marca.

The Madrid-based Spain’s biggest selling sports daily reports that Real Madrid are now convinced that Robinho would develop into a much better player than he already is. This season has been one of the most productive for the former Santos star as he has consistently played well for the Merengues and is one of the main reasons why Real could runaway with the Spanish league championship this time around.

Robinho’s current contract at the Madrid giants ends in June 200 but Marca reports that Real are eager to hand him a contract extension that shall keep him at the club until the summer of 2014. Real Madrid are also ready to reward the Brazilian international winger-cum-striker with a pay hike which implies that he shall earn more than the €2 million he earns at the moment.

It is believed that Robinho’s father Gilvan de Souza, his agent Wagner Ribeiro and Real Madrid sporting director Pedja Mijatovic are currently embroiled in a meeting to sort out the player’s future at the club.

The main problem that Real Madrid has (or had) with Robinho was that he has been consistently accused of indiscipline. There have been persistent reports in the Spanish tabloids of Robinho’s obsession with the Madrid nightlife and the player has been spotted more frequently that he would have liked with gorgeous women although he is a married man and even has a little daughter.

But it now appears that Real Madrid have thought twice about the matter and are eager to sustain Robinho on board for a longer duration.
