Man Utd tracking move for Italian defensive prospect
Riccardo Calafiori has emerged as a target for Manchester United this summer transfer window, with the young Basel left-back set for a transfer away from Switzerland in a deal worth around £12 million. United are looking to add youth prospects to their squad, and need to fill a hole at the left side of defence after the departure of Alex Telles this summer.
Italy born 21-year-old Calafiori has emerged as a regular first-team footballer since moving to Switzerland. He initially joined FC Basel in August 2022 for around 5.75 million euros, and after 23 games in the Swiss top flight, he could already be set for a transfer elsewhere. Calafiori has represented Italy at every single youth level since under-15, and most recently appeared for the under-21 side this year.
Man Utd will need to agree a transfer package as soon as possible though, as Inter Milan are rumoured to have contacted the player's representatives with regards to a possible return to Italy. United will be active in the transfer market over the coming weeks, and are set to announce a deal for Rasmus Hojlund shortly.
