Jean-Clair Tobido on his way to Man Utd
Manchester United are to sign Jean-Clair Todibo from Ligue 1 club Nice this week, as the centre-back gets ready to discuss personal terms with the Old Trafford outfit. 23-year-old Todibo, who has caught the eye since returning to France with Nice in 2021 from Barcelona, is seen as a replacement for the much-maligned Harry Maguire, who could still depart United before the end of the transfer window.
Erik Ten Hag has made signing a new centre-back his only priority before the transfer window closes, and as United prepare a £27 million bid for the defender, the Premier League club signal their intent to dispose Maguire, for whom a deal to West Ham United fell through after the England international failed to agree personal terms.
Maguire has said that he would like to extend his stay at Man Utd and does not want to leave the club.
The France under-20 international has caught the eye since his move to Nice, but prior to that had spells with Toulouse, where he made his first-team debut, and a short stint in Spain with Barcelona. Loan spells to Schalke 04, Benfica and then Nice followed, before finally wrapping up a permanent deal.
At 23-years-old, Tobido has his best years ahead of him and United are signing one of Europe's best defensive prospects.
