Arsenal midfielder emerges as surprise target for Barcelona

Arsenal midfielder Jorginho has emerged as a surprise target for Barcelona for the January transfer window.

The Italy international signed for the north London giants from Chelsea last winter. He has been a quality squad player for them.

The likes of Fenerbahce and Lazio have attempted to sign him this summer, but the midfielder has no desire to leave the Gunners.

It is now reported by Sport that Xavi Hernandez's side could make their move for Jorginho when the transfer window reopens in 2024.

Barcelona signed Oriol Romeu from Girona to fill the defensive midfield spot, but they are looking for an upgrade in January.

Jorginho would be a decent acquisition for the Catalans, but the big question mark is whether Arsenal would consider his exit.

Mikel Arteta has spoken about the need for depth in the squad and Jorginho's calmness in possession is his main strength.

If Arsenal contemplate a midfield exit, they could offload Mohamed Elneny once he has fully recovered from his serious knee injury.
