Jose Mourinho wants to sign Chelsea defender
Roma manager Jose Mourinho has his sights on bringing Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah to the Serie A club in January.
The Giallorossi have had a mixed start to the campaign and they are currently ninth in the Serie A with only 14 points on the board.
The club have had their defensive woes and Gazzetta dello Sport claim that Mourinho could sign a new centre-back this winter.
The Portuguese is currently unhappy with Chris Smalling, who has refused to take painkiller injections to continue playing.
The club are open to offloading him in the New Year and it is claimed that they are awaiting a big-money offer from Saudi.
If that does not happen, the hierarchy could still explore a loan deal with an option for purchase at the end of the campaign.
Roma have a good relationship with Chelsea after signing Tammy Abraham and could use the links to land Chalobah in January.
Chalobah turned down a move to Nottingham Forest last summer, but could be enticed to accept the proposal from Mourinho.
