Sergio Reguilon returns to Tottenham
Sergio Reguilon has returned to Tottenham after Man Utd opted not to extend the defender's stay at Old Trafford. Initially, Reguilon arrived at United as cover for Luke Shaw, who missed the early season through injury, and Reguilon is now expected to fight for a first-team spot back at parent club White Hart Lane.
Reguilon had been expected to join on a permanent basis should the player impress, but the returning Malacia and Luke Shaw saw the Spanish defender's opportunities at the club limited.
It is understood that Atletico Madrid are weighing up a permanent move for Reguilon now that the transfer window has reopened. Spurs are looking to recoup around 4 million euros should they sell the defender.
"Sergio Reguilon is returning to his parent club Tottenham Hotspur after Manchester United activated a break clause in the loan agreement," read a statement on Manchester United's official website. "The Spanish left-back joined on a temporary basis last August and made a positive contribution during the first half of the season. "Sergio fulfilled the role he was brought in for: to provide cover for Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia while both were out with long-term injuries."
