Chelsea make initial contact regarding Kyle Walker-Peters transfer
Chelsea have been in touch with representatives of England international full-back Kyle Walker-Peters and are becoming increasingly confident that a transfer agreement can be reached before the end of the January transfer window for the former Tottenham Hotspur defender. Walker-Peters has been constantly linked with a move away from St Mary's, but has so far remained furiously loyal to the Saints' project and extended his stay at the club that he joined in 2020.
Despite Southampton's disappointing 2022-23 campaign that saw the club relegated to the Championship, Walker-Peters has excelled and won his first cap for England in March 2022, playing in a friendly against Switzerland. That progression has since stalled, but numerous scouts have been tracking the 26-year-old's progress in the second tier, as Walker-Peters has already appeared 27 times and scored two goals.
Chelsea have been looking to add strength in depth to their defence, having sustained several injuries already this season. The club have an excellent relationship with Southampton, having already signed Romeo Lavia last summer from the club. It is understood that Chelsea could pay as much as £25 million to sign the right-back.
