Tottenham planning to beat Chelsea to English striker?
Tottenham Hotspur are planning to beat Chelsea to the signing of Brentford striker Ivan Toney this summer, according to Givemesport.
The England international will enter the final year of his Brentford deal this summer and he is expected to head for the exit door.
Arsenal were initially deemed favourites to land his services, but the Gunners have turned attention to younger targets with potential.
Manchester United also have reservations over a move and they have no desire to meet the player's £250,000-a-week demands.
This leaves Chelsea and Spurs as the front-runners for Toney, but the latter have an advantage with their strong financial situation.
Spurs don't face any concerns with the Profitabilility and Sustainability rules and they can spend freely in the next window.
The same is not the case for Chelsea, who need to recoup around £100m before the end of June before they can re-invest.
Spurs should be fairly confident of signing the 28-year-old ahead of their London counterparts, who have had another poor season.
