Barton gets jailed for 6 months

Newcastle United midfielder Joey Barton has been jailed for six months for assault and affray. The former Man City midfielder was involved in a confrontation outside a McDonalds on the 27th December 2007.

Barton was tried at Liverpool Crown Court where Judge Henry Globe QC announced that Barton had: "violent and cowardly act."

There has yet to be any report from Newcastle United as to any further disciplinary action they will be giving Barton, or whether he will be punished severely.
