Portuguese international to leave Man City for Saudi Arabia
Manchester City have given the green light on a deal that will see Portuguese defender Joao Cancelo depart the Etihad Stadium for Saudi Arabia, as Al Hilal have had their latest offer of $20 million accepted by the Cityzens. Cancelo had been on loan last season and is desperate to leave the Premier League champions, and will earn almost double his current salary with a move to the Middle East.
Al Hilal had been linked with a move for Cancelo in January, but with Barcelona unable to agree a fee for the defender this summer, the path is clear for Al Hilal to swoop for the 30-year-old full-back. Barcelona are also yet to clear their squad for their star summer signing Dani Olmo, so space in the club's team is unavailable for Cancelo.
Cancelo joined Man City in 2019, playing 98 Premier League games and scoring five goals, but Pep Guardiola suddenly changed his plans for the left-back role, allowing Cancelo to leave two summers ago in a surprise exit to Bayern Munich on loan. A deal to Al Hilal will be announced this week.
