Romelu Lukaku exits Chelsea for Napoli
Napoli have signed Romelu Lukaku in a deal worth £30 million from Chelsea. The 31-year-old has been desperate to leave Stamford Bridge and will be delighted to link up once again with former manager Antonio Conte in Naples.
Chelsea had been paying Lukaku a reported salary of £325,000 per week and were keen to get him off of the payroll to spend money on other players. Lukaku signed for Chelsea in 2021 in a deal worth close to £100 million, but failed to impress in his second spell and was promptly sent out on loan to Italy. He had two seasons at Inter Milan and then Roma. Napoli have always been admirers of Lukaku, and his arrival seemingly means that striker Victor Osimhen can now leave the Serie A giants.
Lukaku scored 13 Serie A goals in 32 games for Roma last year, but has been sloppy in front of goal in recent years, and his new club will be hoping to bring the best out of the striker who has played for numerous clubs during his career, such as Man Utd, Everton and West Brom.
