Enzo Maresca explains early Wesley Fofana substitution
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has revealed that Wesley Fofana was substituted early against West Ham United as a precautionary measure.
The Blues secured a convincing 3-0 win over the Hammers on the road today. Nicolas Jackson scored the opening two goals before Cole Palmer bagged the third for the club.
Fofana was substituted early in the 57th minute of the derby and when asked for a question, Maresca said that he was trying to protect him and there was no injury concern.
He said: "The reason why we changed him because we tried to protect him. In the second-half, they changed Kudus so it was a risk to keep him.
"There is not any injury. I love Wes. He is doing fantastic after one year of injury."
With the win at West Ham, Chelsea have moved to fourth in the league standings with 10 points and they could stay there if Manchester City beat Arsenal at the Etihad tomorrow.
