Arsenal fail with opening bid to sign 26yo striker
Arsenal have failed with an opening bid to sign Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres this summer, according to Correio da Manha.
The Gunners are expected to land a new striker in the current transfer window and they have Gyokeres as one of their main targets.
CdM in Portugal claim that the club made a formal bid of €70m for the 26-year-old last week but it was swiftly turned down.
Sporting have made it clear that Gyokeres won't be sold for less than €80m.
Manchester United are also keen on landing the former Brighton man and Sporting are hoping for a bidding war between the clubs.
United are unlikely to afford him at the current point of time but the situation could be different if Bruno Fernandes moves to Saudi.
Arsenal have no plans of making an improved offer for Gyokeres and now seem focused on landing Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig instead.
Sesko has been a long-term target for the London giants.
