Wenger had doubts at Arsenal

Wenger had doubts at Arsenal

Arsene Wenger has admitted that at times he questioned his future at Arsenal; particularly after David Dein's departure, but explained he had never wanted to leave Arsenal, or spoke to any other club. Wenger has now expanded on reasons why Thierry Henry may have left the club.

David Dein remains friends with Arsene, but Wenger expanded upon his opinion that Dein's departure made him consider his future, and was as such the reason for Thierry Henry's leaving.

"David Dein's departure has been something very difficult to swallow. Anyway, David remains an Arsenal fan and he has always pushed me to stay at the club," said Wenger.

The Frenchman continued, "Indeed at a certain time I had doubts. You always have that kind of thinking when you are close to the end of your contract."

On Thierry...

Wenger revealed that Thierry wished to leave the club due to the fact the young side was not progressing rapidly enough for him. This season, the young side is full of promise, but it appears Henry felt the young stars were not yet at their full level of potential.

Speaking of Thierry, Wenger said, "Thierry Henry told me, 'Coach, it is true we have a good and young team. They will probably be very good, but I have not got more time to wait. Will the team be good next year or in two years? I don't know, but today I have to make a decision'.

"I replied, 'Thierry, I can perfectly understand your trouble. I believe that the team will be very good soon, but I understand you ask yourself such a question.'"
