City threaten legal action

Manchester City have threatened The Sun newspaper with legal action after a story printed on Wednesday stated the mega-rich club have approached Jose Mourinho about becoming their new boss.

City have reacted furiously and strenuously denied the report which suggested the Inter Milan chief had rebuffed a £12.5million bid to replace Mark Hughes at Eastlands.



A club statement read: "Following the publication of an article in Wednesday's Sun newspaper by Ian McGarry which states that Jose Mourinho has rejected a £12.5million offer to manage Manchester City Football Club, the club would like to clarify the following.



"The article is completely without foundation and the club is considering legal action to address the matter."



City's moneymen have continued to voice their support for Hughes, who has been in the firing line in the media after the club's hit-and-miss form this season.



Several reports have suggested Hughes' job will be under threat at the end of the season if City don't go all the way in the tournament.



Owner Sheikh Mansour is reportedly yet to be convinced former Wales boss Hughes is the man to help City break into the Premier League's top four.



But with a close season of football speculation ahead City's lawyers could have a very busy schedule if they look to clamp down on every story that's 'without foundation'.
