Man Utd boss slams agents

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson blasted the influence of some agents in the world of football, believing that they prey on fragile footballers and look out for money rather than the best interests of the player.

Fergie said: "Today they are very protected. They are more fragile than ever. That's a lot to do with the type of people who protect them, agents. We had a young boy get in the England Under-21s. His agent phoned up the next day and said, 'I think it's time we sat down for a new contract for the boy.' In his mind he thought that demanded a new contract. I said, 'Let's see how he plays for Manchester United.' But that's the way the world is now. When you think they (agents] are conducting most transfers now, it's not right."
