Carragher set for three months out

Liverpool have been dealt a blow with the news that Jamie Carragher will be out of action for around three months after dislocating his shoulder in the defeat to Tottenham on Sunday.

It was a bad way for Carragher to mark his 450th appearance at the club as he will now have to wait some time to make his 451st. Perhaps as late as March, as the player himself revealed.

The 32-year-old said: "It'll probably be late February or early March when I look to come back. The average is about 12 weeks. I'd like to come back before that but I've got to make sure it's right."

Carragher hasn’t had too many significant injuries in his career and admits that he isn’t the best at sitting on the sidelines. He says it is ‘difficult’ for him when he is injured as he prepares for a spell without donning the Liverpool shirt.

It isn’t only a blow for the player though. The team in general will suffer from Carragher’s absence. He has been an influential figure for them for many years now, but they will have to solider on without him.

Steven Gerrard is out injured too at the moment, so the timing couldn’t have been worse. The Liverpool captain isn’t expected to be out as long as Carragher, but he will still miss important fixtures in the build up to Christmas.

Liverpool have a Europa League tie with Steaua Bucharest to contend with this week, followed by a home game against Aston Villa in the Premier League.

For both of these games and beyond, they will need other players to raise their game in the absence of influential duo Carragher and Gerrard.
