Arsenal face Fabregas fight

Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood has confirmed that the Gunners' have been officially approached by Barcelona with regards to a possible move for midfielder Cesc Fabregas.

The Spaniard has been the subject of continuous speculation over the last few seasons after publically stating his desire to re-join his boyhood club.

Barca have repeatedly tried to acquire his services over the last few summers but have constantly been rebuffed, much to the dismay of the playmaker. Those following will expect him to move sooner or later.

However, after yet another trophyless season for the Gunners, it now appears that the time has come for the Spaniard to move on and with Barcelona keen on signing the midfield maestro, it appears a deal could be done sooner, rather than later.

Fabregas has repeatedly stated his desire to win trophies and after five baron years at the Gunners believes the best place for him to be is at the Nou Camp.

A number of players are reportedly growing unhappy at the Emirates club's perceived lack of ambition with many player's unwilling to commit their future to the club until they're given guarantees about new signings.

However, the Gunners chairman now seems resigned to losing the skipper admitting that he could be hard to hold onto the playmaker for the third summer in a row.

"Yes, they have spoken to us about Cesc," Hill-Wood told the Sunday Mirror. "They have been in touch. But so far they have not made a bid and we do not want to let him go.

"But he comes from Barcelona so it is understandable if he wanted to go back. However, they have not made an offer so far," he added.
