Zidane - No Ronaldo rift
Zidane - No Ronaldo rift
Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has moved to quash rumours of a rift with star player Cristiano Ronaldo.
The rumours of a falling out between the Portuguese superstar and his boss stem from the fact that Ronaldo was taken off in the final 15 minutes of Real Madrid’s 2-2 draw away at Las Palmas at the weekend.
This marked the first time that Ronaldo have been substituted from a game for tactical reason’s in his entire Madrid career.
In more than 200 La Liga appearances, Ronaldo has been taken off due to injury, and removed to be given a rest, but never substitutes because of a tactical switch by the manager; whenever he has been fit and willing to do so, Ronaldo has played the full 90 minutes.
Ronaldo was replaced by winger Lucas Vazquez with the away side 2-1 up. Los Blancos would go on to late winner to Argentinian striker Sergio Araujo, meaning they collected only one point, and allowing rivals FC Barcelona to close to within a point of them at the top of the table.
The Madrid number 7 was clearly unhappy and frustrated at being substitutes, and he threw his arms up in disgust and wore a look of disdain on the bench.
And no it is claimed that this has caused a rift between the player and Zidane, but the Madrid boss has assured fans that everything is fine as they prepare to face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League this week.
