Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur to battle for Newcastle United defender?
Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur could reportedly go head-to-head to pursue the services of Fabian Schar from Newcastle United during the summer transfer window.
The Switzerland international joined the Magpies from Deportivo La Coruna in the summer of 2018, but he has since become a strong influence at the heart of their backline while contributing three goals in the process.
According to The Mirror, both the Gunners and Spurs are looking into a summer approach for the central defender, whom they had tracked since his time at Basel.
Arsenal are on the search for a new centre-back with the future of Shkodran Mustafi remaining a concern beyond the current campaign. Spurs are likewise in a similar position with Toby Alderweireld, although their concerns are contract related.
Alderweireld has another 16 months left on his current deal with Spurs but his reluctance to sign a new contract should witness his exit in the summer. The Belgian has a £25m release clause which gets active during the final 14 days of the summer transfer window.
