Scharner may stay at Wigan
Wigan defender Paul Scharner has hinted that he may yet stay at the Latics despite the reported interest of Sunderland and Fulham. Scharner is valued by his club at around £3 million and Steve Bruce is desperate to keep the player at the JJB.
"I feel very good," he told Non. "It's now easy to get more air to breathe.
"Through the operation, I hope to have more quality of life, a higher life expectancy and a significant increase in my physical performance.
"According to my doctor Sylvia Hirtenfelder, it could increase my potential by up to 30 percent.
"That would be a milestone in my career. Then I would have to redefine my goals.
"(Moving to a top club?) That would be an option but I must emphasise that I am at Wigan and still have a contract until the summer of 2009.
"Afterwards, I would be free so I expect that, in the winter, all hell will break loose."
