Arsenal have revealed that Thomas Vermaelen has not had surgery on his problem right ankle, but instead has had some surgery on a persistent injury in his left ankle.
The injury now leaves Vermaelen on the sidelines for only one month.
Arsenal are desperate to get the Belgium international back playing again and alongside new defensive partner Per Mertesacker.
