Monaco sign Anthony Martial

01 July 2013 - 07:45

Monaco have completed a move for highly rated 17-year-old striker Anthony Martial. The France under-18 international had only just forced his way into Lyon's first team and the Principality club have paid a reported 5 million Euros for the player.

  • The striker is very highly rated in France with many scouts earmarking the forward as a potential striker for the French international side.

Lyon were unable to sell any of their other players, notably Bafetimbi Gomis, meaning that Martial had to be sold to generate funds.

“Having not been able to complete the move of any player approached for a transfer by 30 June, notably Bafetimbi Gomis, the club considered Monaco's offer for Anthony Martial," read a Lyon statement.

“The club completed Anthony Martial's move for five million euros plus an important share on a future transfer."
