Ajax boss De Boer hints at Alderweireld departure

Dutch side Ajax have completed a transfer for defender Mike van der Hoorn, and club manager Frank de Boer then hinted at a potential move away for star defender Toby Alderweireld, who has been linked with a move to both Chelsea and Liverpool.

  • The Belgian centre back, who replaced the likes of Thomas Vermaelen and Jan Vertonghen when the players moved to Arsenal and Tottenham respectively, has been linked with a move to the Premier League for over a year.



    The defender wants to prove himself ina  bigger league this season to ensure that he will be playing for Belgium in next year's World Cup in Brazil.



    The 14 million Euro rated defender is on the transfer shortlist of Jose Mourinho at the Blues, whilst Brendan Rodgers' Liverpool are also considering a move.



    Frank De Boer said after parading new signing van der Hoorn: "If we imagine that Toby Alderweireld leaves Ajax in the future, then we have Mike van der Hoorn who can take over his position."
