Chelsea closing in on Nemanja Matic

Benfica midfielder Nemanja Matic has been speculating interest from some of the top sides across Europe for the past few weeks. The Europa League winners Chelsea look to be favourites to capture the midfielder's signature this summer.

  • The 24-year-old, is a former Chelsea player who made just three appearances for the Stamford Bridge between 2009 and 2011. The West London side loaned him out to Dutch side Vitesse for the 2010/11 season and he was subsequently allowed a permanent switch to Benfica at the end of the season as part of an offer to bring Brazilian international defender David Luiz in a swap deal.



    Matic has been excellent in his performances since the move and has made 75 appearances for the Premeira Liga runners up, notching up six goals in the process.



    Matic has upto now played for a number of sides in his short career – FK Kolubara, MFK Kosice, Chelsea, Vitesse, and Benfica.



    Chelsea defender David Luiz has reportedly tried to induce him to join the West Londo club, but no official word has been made from the Matic camp surrounding his future at the club.
