  • Arsene Wenger have been in search of a new striker this summer and have been linked with a host of players including Gonzalo Higuain and Wayne Rooney. The Frenchman had been hot in the trails of Higuain but are refusing to meet Real Madrid's evaluation of the Argentine forward.

Believed to have been awarded with a transfer kitty in excess of £70 million, Wenger is now eager to test Liverpool's resolve to keep hold of their striker. It is believed that Arsenal went in with an offer in the ranger of £30 million earlier but the club turned it down.

Earlier yesterday Brendan Rodgers had claimed that the club would hold on to the Uruguayan and only consider offers if their valuation of the striker is met. It is to be seen if the recent offer does meet their expectations.
