Barcelona president Rosell wants Valdes to stay

10 September 2013 - 06:28

Barcelona president Sandro Rosell has expressed his desire to convince wantaway goalkeeper Victor Valdes to sign a new contract with the La Liga champions.

  • Atletico Madrid interested in two Chelsea stars?
  • Chelsea agree £52m deal to sign 20yo English winger

  • The 31 year old has been linked with a move away from Camp Nou this summer and is expected to sign for a new club once his current contract runs out at the end of this season.

The Catalan giants have been reported to be interested in Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina, who is currently on loan at Napoli, but Rosell's recent comments is set to deal a heavy blow to the Spaniard's hopes of making the move.

"I have tried to convince him to stay but I cannot tell you that we have met as yet," said Rosell.

"Of course, I have tried and he has not yet come off. I will certainly be trying again.

"We have a year left and that is a long time."

"No, in no case," he continued.

"Some players are iconic to one club. Madrid would not think about signing Xavi and I can never see Casillas wearing the Barca badge."
