Barcelona president Rosell wants Valdes to stay

<strong>Barcelona president Sandro Rosell has expressed his desire to convince wantaway goalkeeper Victor Valdes to sign a new contract with the La Liga champions.</strong>

  • The 31 year old has been linked with a move away from Camp Nou this summer and is expected to sign for a new club once his current contract runs out at the end of this season.<br />

    The Catalan giants have been reported to be interested in Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina, who is currently on loan at Napoli, but Rosell's recent comments is set to deal a heavy blow to the Spaniard's hopes of making the move.<br />

    "I have tried to convince him to stay but I cannot tell you that we have met as yet," said Rosell.<br />

    "Of course, I have tried and he has not yet come off. I will certainly be trying again.<br />

    "We have a year left and that is a long time."<br />

    "No, in no case," he continued.<br />

    "Some players are iconic to one club. Madrid would not think about signing Xavi and I can never see Casillas wearing the Barca badge."
