Mesut Ozil could miss Arsenal debut through illness

14 September 2013 - 11:24

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger may have to wait a while longer before unleashing his club record signing Mesut Ozil. The Germany international missed training yesterday through illness as both the midfielder and fellow countryman Per Mertesacker returned from international duty unwell.

  • Dutch star has travelled to London for Chelsea medical
  • Chelsea to focus on signing Dutch attacker after Hato

  • Arsenal boss Wenger is desperate to unleash his midfielder on the Premier League and had hoped that this weekend's trip to Sunderland would be the perfect opportunity. However, it appears the Frenchman may have to make a last minute decision on Ozil's fitness ahead of the crunch tie.

The Gunners will also be missing Tomas Rosicky through injury sustained on international duty; should Ozil not recover in time to play it is understood that the Gunners will play a midfield trio of Mathieu Flamini, Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey whilst Santi Cazorla will be deployed on the left.
