Man Utd want Arsenal star as Vidic replacement

09 March 2014 - 12:20

Manchester United boss David Moyes reportedly considers Arsenal's out-of-favour centre-half Thomas Vermaelen as a potential replacement for outbound captain Nemanja Vidic.

  • Chelsea defender on his way to Leeds United?
  • Chelsea ready to hand Nicolas Jackson fresh chance
  • With Serbian international Vidic set to leave the Red Devils for Inter Milan at the end of the season, manager Moyes is keen on adding Belgian defender to the club's ranks before the World Cup finals in Brazil.

According to The Sun, the Red Devils will offer the former Ajax star with a chance to play regular first-team football, but Arsenal would demand a hefty price of around £12m for the player's services.

Vermaelen has made just 3 starts for the Gunners in the league, having seen the likes of Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny have a great partnership in the central defensive role this season.
