Reds plan bid for Romero

Liverpool open talks for Argentine shot-stopper

14 August 2014 - 09:13

Liverpool are understood to have opened talks with Sampdoria over the potential transfer of goalkeeper Sergio Romero to Anfield this summer.

  • Chelsea ready new contract for star midfielder
  • Chelsea make first move to sign Xabi Alonso
  • The Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is believed to have been impressed by the 27-year-old's excellent performance during the World Cup in Brazil, where he helped the Argentine national side reach the finals of the major showpiece.

According to Sky Italia, the Merseysiders have made an enquiry over the availability of the talented shot-stopper last night. In addition to this, Sampdoria are open to selling Romero for a fee of around £2m during the current transfer window.

The signing of Romero could provide Liverpool with an efficient back-up option to Simon Mignolet, having seen Pepe Reina join Bayern Munich earlier this month.
