Allardyce: no signings in Jan

Allardyce: no signings in Jan

11 December 2007 - 18:57

Newcastle chairman Chris Mort has revealed that Sam Allardyce will not be given any money to spend in the January transfer window. Newcastle purchased nine players in the summer, and the board will not be giving Allardyce any money for January.

  • Man Utd believe they can sign Bournemouth star for £64m
  • Chelsea tipped to make shock move for Marcus Rashford
  • "We had nine new signings in the summer. I think part of the difficulty we've had, particularly in defence, is getting guys working together," the chairman told the Daily Mirror.

"I'm not convinced adding another two names in defence is necessarily going to be the solution this season.

"If I made any signings in January, they'd be young guys who I could see staying for a very long time, not immediate first-team regulars.

"Sam's not pitched to me that we need to sign players because of that tournament."
