Arsene Wenger will not recruit any players during the winter transfer window unless it is an absolute necessity, Arsenal scout Brian McDermott claims.

  • The Gunners were the only side in Europe's top five leagues to not sign an outfield player over the summer.

McDermott, who currently occupies the chief scout role at the Emirates, feels Wenger is unlikely to make any signings in January.

"The manager won't spend unless he thinks it's absolutely necessary," the former Leeds United boss told Sky Sports News.

"The scouting structure at Arsenal is phenomenal. We all know who the top strikers in the world are. Can you get them to come? They won't be available in January that's an absolute certainty."

Arsenal's injury concerns worsened after England duo Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain joined the likes of Danny Welbeck, Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey on the sidelines.
